Driftless Stream Project Tour

Tuesday, October 18, 8:15AM - 5:00PM

Save the Date! You’re invited to join TU volunteers and staff, fisheries professionals and technicians, contractors, partners and educators to see recent stream restoration projects. This year, from a jumping off point ion Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, we’ll visit sites in southwest Wisconsin in Grant and Iowa counties. Walk the stream sites with the designers and contractors and see the most innovative restoration techniques being used across the region today. All sites will be on working agricultural lands, and all provide public access. We’ll talk about how Farm Bill Conservation dollars and support from other partners—public and private—are crucial to restoration in the Upper Mississippi River Basin.

The tour is nominally free, sponsored by TU’s Driftless Area Restoration Effort, and will set out from Prairie du Chien in a comfortable charter bus at 8:15 a.m. However, this year we will welcome a goodwill donation of $10 to cover part of the cost of the bus and box lunches. We’ll visit three sites and see what’s being done for habitat for streams, wetlands, and adjacent areas, and return to Prairie du Chien between 4:30 and 5. Lunch will be provided. Bring your cameras and your questions.

PLEASE NOTE THIS YEAR THE BUS LOCATION HAS BEEN CHANGED: We will load up and return to the Cabelas' store parking lot, just north of Prairie du Chien on Highway 35. Street address: 33901 Highway 35, PDC, 53821.

Seating will be limited on the bus, but if we fill up you are welcome to follow the tour in your own vehicle. However, PLEASE let us know you’re coming along so we can arrange for a lunch for you.

Water will be provided in a large cooled container, but please bring your own REFILLABLE WATER BOTTLE to keep those darn plastic containers out of our landfills and ditches.

Please RSVP to Duke Welter, TUDARE Outreach Guy (; 715-579-7538) or Jeff Hastings, TUDARE Project Manager by October 11. (, 608-606-4158). We’ll answer any questions you may have.
