Fly Fishing:

• Our chapter fishing day is Tuesday, July 14.

• Wilderness float trips through the black canyon

• 3 mile stretch of gold medal water

• Walk and wade trips on Gunnison River with trophy trout over 20”

• Tours occur on Wednesday, July 15.

Black Canyon Anglers will schedule viewing trips to: 1) Ross Reels; 2) Scott Rods and 3) Whiting Farms (as in fly tying feathers fame).

• Fishing Day is Thursday July 16 at Sunshine Springs Angling Club- This unique location consists of 8 springs fed ponds with up to 14 pound fish. Many are around 5 pounds. You may catch fives trout species. Our TU discount results in a rod fee per day, per person of $55.00. Usual rod fee is $65.00 per day. Provide your own fishing gear. Sunshine Springs is private property we can reserve for our own use. Business does not have a website. Tell Bob Bernard of your plans on fishing here. That-can happen up to two days before July 14. You pay when you fish. Black Canyon will coordinate logistics with the property

 

Lodge and cabins

All trips begin and end from the BCA Lodge, which houses a fly shop, library, TV room, pool table and dining hall. Adjacent to the lodge, two and four person cabins are also available—each with a private shower and rest room. The meticulous landscaping creates a relaxing common gathering area. Three miles of The Lower Gunnison River wraps around the property providing private water fishing access; several stocked trout ponds offer casting practice and the chance to catch a really big fish

• 3-2 person cabins that can be set up as 2 single beds or 1 king bed-shower and restroom

• 3-4 person cabins – queen bed, double bed, and 2 singles w/ mini fridge, shower, restroom, and screened in porch

• Will reserve the three cabins for us until 30 days before scheduled arrival

Economics

• Cabins—Includes a continental breakfast and access to 4 miles of private river and stocked ponds discount rate for groups is $60 per person per night tax or $200 per upper cabin/$100 per lower cabin whichever is cheapest These rates are discounts from $85 pp/night

• Continental breakfast included with cabin rental

• Dinner—Includes happy hour, appetizers, salad, entrée and dessert $40/person/night (Beer, Wine Cocktails are additional tabs available at the bar.)

• Meal details- if you choose to do dinner on your own; grills are available for your use, upper cabins have mini fridges to store food, sack lunches are available at $15 each

• One day fish and float through the Black Canyon  Normal cost is $1,200 per boat (two person), includes lunch and transportation Trout Unlimited discount=10% off all trip=$1,080 ($540 pp)

• One day fish and float on the lower Gunnison for 2 people Normal cost is $600 per boat (two person) includes lunch and transportation Trout Unlimited discount=10% off all trip=$540.00 for two people

• Walk and wade trips=$475 for 2 people, $425 for 1 person includes lunch and transportation

• Boat rentals $125 per day includes shuttle (boat, rowing frame, oars, cooler, life jackets)

• Sunshine Springs-(this is where we can fish on July 16—see above) 8 springs fed ponds with up to 14lb fish, most are around 5 lbs., rod fee $65 TU discounts available. A private property we can reserve for our own use,

• Grand Mesa- Largest flat top mountain in the world, 300 lakes all have fish, creeks everywhere, 90% public land, lots of small town local art and produce

• Hot springs available in Ouray just over an hour from BCA, Hot springs in Ridgway is place with clothing optional

• Tours of Scott fly rods, Ross Reels, and Whiting Farms can be set up and done all in one day, i.e.,, July 15

• Black Canyon National Park can be accessed at any time $15 per car, visitors center offers a video explaining history, geology, and much more
